Problems updating yt dl on linux

Hi guys when i execute the command : youtube-dl -U
The console drops me: ERROR: can't find the current version. Please try again later.
I am on the right directory but I am a noob of linux/ubuntu so if anyone can help me I will be glad, thanks!
