It's not about ram at all. That isn't connected in any way. You can have 1GB of ram without causing any lags.
There are multiple posts that explain how/why virtual-servers cause lags when the host-server is overbooked. I'm not going to repeat it every time.
You should also not change the sample interval.
Maybe he has more on it ^^
